According to the Consumer Product Safety Commission, slip and fall accidents are the main cause of injury among the elderly. For seniors living at home, it is important that the home is safe for aging in place.

The decision to age at home is a personal one. If you’re helping an aging loved one manage the aging process, this checklist will help you complete a standard safety review to see what threats exist in the home. Some of these challenges, such as doorway size, lack of grab bars, dangerous throw rugs, or steps, can be altered through simple changes. Others may require more extensive modifications to the home structure.

The image above outlines what this checklist looks like, and it is sorted by area of the home and type of safety challenge. This aging in place checklist is three pages long, and is designed to be completed by a client or caregiver. We can also assist in completing this exercise. Simply contact our office and we’re happy to help.
